Online MFT Programs was built to provide visitors with up to date information on all of the available marriage and family therapy programs in the United States. With so many schools spread across the US, finding the right program for a potential student has become overwhelming for applicants.
Our site breaks down various programs by location, degree level, and allows users to sort programs by various other attributes, including whether or not an entrance exam is needed or if the program is accredited and, if so, by whom.
Whether or not an online MFT, counseling, or social degree is accredited is critical for applicants, as many states require individuals who are looking to pursue licensure to have graduated from an accredited program. Our guides also provide in-depth information on additional requirements as individuals look to become licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT’s) within their home states.
Editorial Standards
How We Select Programs
Our researchers review accreditation lists (such as CACREP) and state organizational sites to pull complete program lists for all our pages. Our goal is to have all-inclusive lists of programs. If any ordering or rankings are introduced, the requirements for those are clearly shown.
Data Sources
Online MFT Programs use governmental and other authoritative data sources to research program availability, accreditation, cost, requirements, and licensure related information. Our core sources include:
- IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System), the U.S. Department of Education’s national database of higher education institutions and programs.
- Official accrediting bodies, including COAMFTE, CACREP, APA, and CSWE.
We regulary updated our program listings pages to reflect updated cost data, accreditation status, program requirements, program areas of focus, and tuition and fee information. Our site is undergoing a large revamp in February of 2026 to reflect updated program information and editorial requirements.
Licensing Disclaimer
Licensure requirements for applicants are constantly changing as states roll out new rules and regulations. We request that all individuals reviewing licensure requirements please discuss with their state licensing board.
Our Team
Our writers are mental health practitioners themselves and have spent many years experiencing both the gratification and frustrations associated with working in the field. The content that they produce for Online MFT Programs includes their personal perspectives as they researched and enrolled in higher education programs and eventually pursued licensure and careers in their mental health fields of choice. The content that they provide is written based on their personal experiences in the mental health space.
